The marijuana plant has been around since the beginning of human history, but only now have we started to understand and discover the right opportunities this plant brings for human health. As we evolve so does the knowledge and science that helps us get a deeper understanding on the benefits of the plant medicine.

Cannabis is an extremely complex plant with its different components. Understanding and extracting all the good things that the plant has to offer is still an evolving process.

Compounds found in cannabis have shown to be beneficial in treatments regarding pain, seizures, anxiety, digestive issues and even cancer. Medical cannabis has also shown less side-effects and been relatively safe to use.

As we have discovered the endocannabinoid system in our bodies, we now know that plant cannabinoids such as CBD and THC can positively affect the CB1 and CB2 recpeptors.

The endocannabinoid system is responsible for the overall balance in our bodies; it controls our blood circulation, our breathing, and digestive processes. It is there to keep our body in the most balanced state. If this system is interrupted we can feel changes in how we cope on a daily basis, we can feel stressed, weak, nervous or even in pain. We can have eating disorders, our brain wont function properly and we might feel changes in our motor skills. This is possibly the most important system our body has.

Hemps and cannabis come from the same plant, it’s just different parts of the plant that can be used to produce different products. We have seeds that are very high in fatty acids which our brain needs daily to function correctly, it has almost no THC meaning it has no psychoactive effect, but for some reason it has been banned in Australia for a very long time.

Australia has been one of the last countries to legalize it, doing so in 2017 and admitting that hemp seed oil is safe for consumption and is an excellent source for Omega-3 fatty acids.

Did you know that mothers milk contains cannabinoids? Those compounds in human breast milk are crucial for a babies development, it’s critically important in the early stages when the baby is learning the skills of sucking milk.

The human body is built for cannabinoids, as they help to regulate the immune system, brain function and protect against disease. Research shows that the endocannabinoid system has a massive effect on pre-and postnatal development. Cannabinoids are controlling the fertilization process, the development of the brain and nervous system and being part of the development of a baby’s milk sucking skills.
There has also been a discovery that suggests that children may be less affected by psychoactive compounds like THC, more research has to be done, but if this gets confirmed, we can open up more significant possibilities for pediatric medicine.
We are fortunate that the science has opened up the understanding of cannabis and its benefits, and therefore the false fears and myths are disappearing.
